Mathematics Counts offers a wide range of  services to schools. Get in touch with me today to learn more about these services and what I can do for you.

My name is Louise Matthews and I provide support in mathematics for primary schools. I believe that every child can learn mathematics and has the right to do so.

I have a wide experience of providing bespoke professional development and support for schools and can offer-

​

  • Author visits to schools

  • Conference sessions and key note talks on primary mathematics​

  • INSET, twilight and staff meetings for schools to develop teaching and learning in all aspects of mathematics

  • Support for individual teachers to plan lessons to ensure all children achieve

  • Coaching and modelling alongside teachers in classrooms to develop best practice.

  • Lesson study approach to staff professional development

  • Support for subject leaders to develop leadership and management of mathematics across school.

  • a member of ACME Outer Circle (Advisory Committee for Mathematics Education)

  • a member of the National Numeracy Forum

  • a presenter at the World Association of Lesson Study Conference in 2012 and 2016

  • published as - Dunn, Matthews and Dowrick (2010), Numbers Count: developing a national approach to early intervention, in Issues in Teaching Numeracy in Primary Schools, Berkshire: Open University Press.

Stories for KS1 with a Mathematical Theme

I can offer you an Author Visit to your school which can include

- An assembly about developing writing from and lessons from an author.

- Mathematics lessons in Y1 and Y2 using the Martha books as a stimulus.

- Parent talks on how to support their children in their mathematical development

SPOT ON WITH NUMBERS

Mathematics Intervention

In collaboration with Spot On With Numbers, have developed an early intervention programme which contains everything you require to guide children in developing early number sense. Furthermore, it includes research based support for learners with dyscalculic tendencies and strategies for improving working memory.
