IMPROVING SUPPORT FOR KS1 CHILDREN IN MATHEMATICS

The course is designed to support TAs in their role of supporting in whole class teaching, developing same-day intervention or in developing small group work in KS1. It would also benefit anyone involved in one-to-one tuition to tackle lost learning.

This course aims to 

• Develop an understanding of diagnostic assessment and how to use it.

• Improve mathematical pedagogy and subject knowledge.

• Gain a better understanding of how to use visual and concrete representations.

• Teach techniques for developing mathematical thinking and talk.

• Consider how to support children to make connections in mathematics.


The full course has four half day sessions and includes pre-reading and gap tasks.

  • Counting and Number

  • Place Value

  • Additive Reasoning

  • Multiplicative Reasoning

It could be delivered to ten delegates in one school or to a group of schools in order to share the cost. The total cost for all four sessions £1500 which is only £150 per delegate if all ten places are filled. The course will be delivered face to face with full social distancing and individual resources or we could discuss an on-line version.
